Men's Health: Testosterone, Erectile Dysfunction, and Prostate Health From a Private GP in London
Men's health issues are among the most under-discussed and under-treated conditions in medicine. Erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, prostate concerns, and hormonal imbalance affect millions of men in the UK — yet many suffer in silence rather than seeking help, often because NHS GP appointments feel too rushed, too public, or too difficult to get.
The Online GP by The Wellness provides discreet, unhurried men's health consultations with GMC-registered doctors. Same-day availability from £125 in-person or £49 by video. Comprehensive men's health assessments including testosterone testing, hormonal profiles, and metabolic screening from £395.

Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction is far more common than most men realise. Around 4.3 million men in the UK are affected. It is not an inevitable consequence of ageing, and in most cases it is treatable — often straightforwardly.
But ED is also more than a sexual health issue. It can be an early warning sign of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, or hormonal deficiency. The blood vessels supplying the penis are smaller than those supplying the heart, which means vascular problems often show up as ED years before they manifest as chest pain or a cardiac event. Getting ED assessed properly is not just about restoring sexual function — it is about protecting your long-term health.
What our doctors will do. We take a thorough history to understand the pattern of your ED — when it started, how often it occurs, whether you get morning erections, and whether there are psychological factors involved. We arrange blood tests to check testosterone, blood glucose, cholesterol, thyroid function, and kidney and liver function. If the cause is vascular or hormonal, treating the underlying condition often resolves the ED.
Medication. For most men, phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors are effective first-line treatment. These include sildenafil (the active ingredient in Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), vardenafil (Levitra), and avanafil (Spedra). Our doctors prescribe these after proper clinical assessment — not from a tick-box questionnaire. We discuss which medication suits your lifestyle (sildenafil works for 4-6 hours, tadalafil for up to 36 hours), starting doses, side effects, and any interactions with other medications.
Sildenafil is also available over the counter as Viagra Connect (50mg) without a prescription. However, seeing a doctor ensures the right diagnosis and rules out underlying conditions that need treatment in their own right.
Beyond medication. If first-line medications are insufficient, we investigate further and discuss additional options. For men with confirmed low testosterone contributing to ED, testosterone optimisation can significantly improve both libido and erectile function. We can also refer to urology specialists for advanced assessment when needed.
Testosterone and Hormonal Health
Testosterone begins declining in men from around age 30, at a rate of approximately 1-2% per year. For most men, this is a gradual, manageable change. But for a significant minority — estimates suggest 8-12% of men over 40 — testosterone drops to levels that cause real symptoms.
Low testosterone symptoms include persistent fatigue that is not explained by sleep or lifestyle, reduced sex drive, erectile difficulty, mood changes including irritability and low mood, difficulty concentrating and brain fog, reduced muscle mass and increased body fat (particularly abdominal fat), decreased motivation and drive, and reduced bone density.
These symptoms overlap with depression, thyroid problems, and other conditions — which is why blood testing is essential rather than guessing.
Testosterone blood testing. We recommend a morning blood test (before 10am, fasting) measuring total testosterone, free testosterone, sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), luteinising hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), oestradiol, prolactin, thyroid function, full blood count, lipid profile, HbA1c, liver function, and PSA. This comprehensive panel identifies not only whether testosterone is low, but why — and whether other hormonal or metabolic issues are contributing.
Testosterone assessment pricing. A men's hormonal blood panel starts from £99. A comprehensive men's health assessment including blood work, cardiovascular assessment, and an extended GP consultation starts from £395.
If testosterone is low. If blood tests confirm clinically low testosterone with symptoms, we discuss the options. This may include lifestyle optimisation (which can meaningfully improve testosterone in some men), investigation of underlying causes, or referral for testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) where clinically appropriate. TRT requires careful medical supervision, regular blood monitoring, and an informed discussion about benefits, risks, and long-term commitment.

Prostate Health
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK, with over 52,000 new cases diagnosed annually. Yet many men have never had a prostate check.
PSA testing. Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a protein produced by the prostate gland. Elevated PSA levels can indicate prostate cancer, but also benign prostate enlargement, prostatitis (prostate inflammation), or recent sexual activity. PSA is a screening tool, not a definitive diagnosis — but it is an important first step, particularly for men over 50 or those with risk factors.
Who should be screened. We recommend prostate screening from age 50 for most men, or from age 45 for men with a family history of prostate cancer or men of Black African or Black Caribbean descent, who have a significantly higher risk. There is no NHS prostate screening programme — the decision to test is made individually after discussing the benefits and limitations with your doctor.
What we offer. PSA blood testing, clinical assessment, discussion of results and their significance, and urgent referral to urology specialists if any result is concerning. Early detection of prostate cancer dramatically improves treatment outcomes.
Other Men's Health Services
Hair loss. Male pattern hair loss affects approximately 50% of men by age 50. Our doctors can assess the cause (hormonal, nutritional, or medical) and discuss treatment options including finasteride, minoxidil, and referral for PRP therapy or hair transplant consultation through The Wellness.
Premature ejaculation. More common than most men think. Our doctors provide confidential assessment and discuss treatment options including behavioural techniques and medication.
Urinary symptoms. Difficulty urinating, frequent urination, getting up at night, weak stream, or incomplete emptying can indicate benign prostate enlargement, prostatitis, or other conditions. Assessment includes clinical examination, blood tests (PSA, kidney function), and referral for further investigation if needed.
Pre-conception health for men. Planning a family? Male fertility contributes to approximately 50% of fertility problems. We offer semen analysis referrals, hormonal testing, and lifestyle advice to optimise fertility.
General health screening. Men are statistically less likely than women to attend regular health checks. Our executive health assessment (from £395) provides a comprehensive review of cardiovascular health, metabolic health, hormonal status, cancer screening, and lifestyle factors — designed for men who want to take their health seriously without spending hours in a waiting room.
