Weight Loss Injections in London: Doctor-Led Wegovy and Mounjaro Prescriptions
The Online GP by The Wellness provides medically supervised weight loss injection prescriptions from our Marylebone clinic. Wegovy (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide) are prescribed after a thorough doctor assessment including baseline blood tests, with ongoing monitoring and support throughout your treatment. Clinical trials demonstrate average weight loss of 15 to 17% with Wegovy and 20 to 22.5% with Mounjaro at optimal doses. We prescribe these medications responsibly, to eligible patients, with proper medical oversight, not via a brief online questionnaire. Over 40% of UK adults are living with overweight or obesity (NHS Digital, 2025), and for many, these medications represent a genuine, evidence-based tool for meaningful, sustained weight reduction when combined with lifestyle changes.

How GLP-1 Weight Loss Medications Work
Wegovy and Mounjaro belong to a class of medications called GLP-1 receptor agonists (Mounjaro also targets GIP receptors). They work by mimicking hormones that your body naturally produces after eating. These hormones signal to your brain that you are full, slow stomach emptying so you feel satisfied for longer, and regulate blood sugar levels to reduce cravings and energy crashes.
The result is a genuine reduction in appetite and food intake, not through willpower but through the same biological mechanisms that regulate hunger in everyone. Combined with dietary improvements and increased physical activity, this produces substantial, sustained weight loss that most people cannot achieve through lifestyle changes alone.
The evidence is robust. Semaglutide 2.4mg (Wegovy) was tested in the STEP clinical trial programme involving over 15,000 participants. Average weight loss was 14.9% at 68 weeks (STEP 1, New England Journal of Medicine, 2021). Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) was tested in the SURMOUNT programme involving over 10,000 participants. Average weight loss at the highest dose was 22.5% at 72 weeks (SURMOUNT-1, New England Journal of Medicine, 2022). These are among the most effective non-surgical weight loss treatments ever studied.
Who Is Eligible
GLP-1 medications are prescription-only and are not appropriate for everyone. At The Online GP by The Wellness, eligibility is assessed through a comprehensive doctor consultation and baseline blood tests.
General eligibility criteria (based on NICE guidance and product licensing) include a BMI of 30 or above (obese), or a BMI of 27 or above with at least one weight-related comorbidity such as Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or obstructive sleep apnoea, and previous attempts at weight loss through diet and exercise that have not achieved sufficient results.
Contraindications that may preclude prescribing include personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2, current or recent pancreatitis, severe gastrointestinal disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and certain other medical conditions that your doctor will assess during the consultation.
Your doctor will discuss all of this with you openly. If you are not eligible for GLP-1 medication, we will explain why and discuss alternative approaches to weight management.
Why Doctor-Led Prescribing Matters
The explosion of demand for weight loss injections has created a Wild West of online providers, pharmacy services, and even social media sellers. Not all of these are safe or responsible. At The Online GP by The Wellness, our approach is fundamentally different.
Full medical assessment before prescribing. A doctor reviews your medical history, current medications, cardiovascular risk, mental health, eating patterns, and weight loss history. This is not a 5-minute online form.
Baseline blood tests. HbA1c, fasting glucose, liver function, kidney function, lipid profile, thyroid function, and full blood count. These establish your starting point and identify any conditions that need addressing alongside weight management.
Gradual dose titration. Both Wegovy and Mounjaro are started at low doses and increased gradually over weeks to months. This reduces side effects (particularly nausea) and allows your doctor to find the dose that works for you. Rushing dose escalation to chase faster results increases side effect risk.
Regular monitoring. Follow-up consultations at defined intervals (typically monthly during dose escalation, then every 2 to 3 months once stable) to assess progress, manage side effects, repeat blood tests, and adjust the plan.
Integration with other health needs. Weight management does not exist in isolation. Your doctor can simultaneously address blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes risk, mental health, and any other concerns. At The Online GP by The Wellness, blood tests, ultrasound, prescriptions, and specialist referrals are all available from the same clinic.
Medication safety. We prescribe genuine, UK-licensed medications from reputable pharmacies. We do not use compounded semaglutide, unregulated alternatives, or products of uncertain provenance.

The Consultation Process
Step 1: Initial assessment. An in-person or video consultation with a GMC-registered doctor. Your doctor reviews your medical history, weight history, current medications, eating habits, physical activity, mental health, and weight loss goals. A physical examination including weight, height, BMI, blood pressure, and waist circumference is conducted.
Step 2: Blood tests. Baseline bloods are taken at the same appointment (if in-person) or arranged promptly. Results typically available within 24 to 48 hours.
Step 3: Treatment plan. Once blood results confirm eligibility and no contraindications, your doctor discusses the medication options (Wegovy vs Mounjaro), explains the dose escalation schedule, sets realistic expectations based on clinical trial data and your individual profile, and issues the first prescription.
Step 4: Ongoing monitoring. Monthly reviews during dose escalation. Blood tests repeated at intervals. Weight, side effects, and overall health tracked. Your doctor adjusts the dose and plan based on your response.
Step 5: Long-term strategy. These medications are most effective as part of a long-term approach to weight management. Your doctor will discuss dietary advice, physical activity recommendations, and strategies for maintaining weight loss if and when medication is eventually reduced or stopped.
What We Will Not Do
We are transparent about the boundaries of responsible prescribing.
We will not prescribe weight loss medication without a proper medical assessment. We will not prescribe to patients who do not meet the eligibility criteria, regardless of how strongly they want the medication. We will not prescribe Ozempic off-label for weight loss when licensed alternatives (Wegovy, Mounjaro) are available, as Ozempic supply must be protected for patients with Type 2 diabetes. We will not continue prescribing if monitoring reveals safety concerns. And we will not promise specific weight loss outcomes, as individual results depend on many factors beyond medication alone.
This approach protects you and ensures the best possible outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get Wegovy or Mounjaro from your clinic? Yes. Prescribed after full doctor assessment and baseline blood tests for eligible patients.
What is the difference between Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro? Ozempic is for Type 2 diabetes. Wegovy (higher-dose semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide) are licensed for weight management. We prescribe the licensed options.
How much weight can I lose? Clinical trials show 15 to 17% with Wegovy and 20 to 22.5% with Mounjaro at optimal doses. Individual results vary.
Are they safe? Extensively studied in trials involving over 25,000 participants combined. Common side effects (nausea, decreased appetite) are usually mild and improve over time. Doctor-led prescribing with monitoring maximises safety.
Why not just use an online pharmacy? A doctor provides full medical assessment, blood tests, dose titration, ongoing monitoring, and integration with your broader health. An online questionnaire cannot replicate this.
Do I need blood tests? Yes. Mandatory before prescribing. Includes diabetes screening, liver, kidney, thyroid, lipids. Repeated during treatment.
