Worried About a Mole or Skin Change? Same-Day Private GP Assessment in London
You have noticed a mole that looks different. A rash that will not go away. A skin change that was not there before. The anxiety of not knowing is often worse than the diagnosis itself — and waiting weeks for an NHS appointment while you worry is unnecessary.
The Online GP by The Wellness provides same-day skin assessments at our Marylebone clinic from £125 in-person, or from £49 by video for rashes and visible skin conditions. If your concern needs specialist investigation, we provide fast-track referrals to consultant dermatologists — typically seen within days, not months.

Mole Checks and Skin Cancer Screening
Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with over 150,000 new cases diagnosed each year. Melanoma — the most serious type — kills over 2,300 people annually. But when caught early, melanoma has a survival rate above 90%.
The challenge is knowing which moles to worry about. Most adults have between 10 and 40 moles, and the vast majority are completely harmless. But changes in existing moles, or the appearance of new moles after age 30, warrant medical assessment.
The ABCDE Rule
Dermatologists use the ABCDE criteria to assess whether a mole needs further investigation.
A — Asymmetry. If you draw an imaginary line through the middle of the mole, do the two halves match? Normal moles are typically symmetrical. Asymmetry can be a warning sign.
B — Border. Benign moles usually have smooth, even borders. Irregular, ragged, blurred, or notched edges are worth investigating.
C — Colour. Normal moles are usually one uniform colour — typically brown. Multiple colours within a single mole (shades of brown, black, red, white, or blue) are a concern.
D — Diameter. Moles larger than 6mm (roughly the size of a pencil eraser) should be assessed, although melanomas can be smaller than this.
E — Evolution. This is the most important factor. Any mole that is changing — growing, changing shape, changing colour, becoming raised, or developing new symptoms like itching, bleeding, or crusting — should be seen by a doctor.
If any of these apply to a mole on your body, do not wait. Book a same-day assessment.
What Happens During a Mole Assessment
Our doctors examine the mole with the naked eye and, where available, with a dermatoscope — a handheld device that provides magnified, polarised-light examination of the skin surface and the structures just below it. Dermoscopy significantly improves the accuracy of mole assessment compared to naked-eye examination alone.
Based on the assessment, the outcome will be one of three things. If the mole appears benign, we provide reassurance and advice on what to monitor going forward. If the mole has features that need specialist assessment, we refer you to a consultant dermatologist — typically seen within days through private referral. If the mole looks clinically suspicious, we arrange an urgent two-week-wait pathway referral or an immediate private dermatology appointment.
Rashes, Eczema, and Psoriasis
Skin conditions that are not cancer-related but significantly affect quality of life — itchy rashes, eczema flare-ups, psoriasis, contact dermatitis, fungal infections, and hives — are often poorly managed because NHS GP appointments are too short and too hard to get.
Our doctors take the time to assess skin conditions properly. Many rashes and skin complaints can be evaluated via video consultation, where you show the affected area on camera. This is convenient, fast, and often sufficient for diagnosis and treatment. For conditions requiring hands-on examination, in-person appointments are available same-day.
We prescribe the full range of dermatological treatments including topical corticosteroids, emollients, antifungal creams, antihistamines, topical antibiotics, and coal tar preparations. For conditions not responding to first-line treatment, we refer to consultant dermatologists for specialist management.
Acne
Acne affects 95% of people at some point, but for many it persists well into adulthood and can cause significant psychological distress and scarring. NHS pathways for acne can be frustratingly slow — limited appointment times, reluctance to prescribe beyond basic treatments, and long waits for dermatology referral when stronger treatment is needed.
What we can prescribe. Topical retinoids (adapalene, tretinoin), benzoyl peroxide, topical antibiotics (clindamycin), oral antibiotics (lymecycline, doxycycline), the combined oral contraceptive pill for women with hormonal acne, and spironolactone for women who do not respond to other treatments.
When specialist referral is needed. If your acne is severe, scarring, or not responding to the treatments above, isotretinoin (Roaccutane) may be appropriate. This is a highly effective treatment for severe acne but can only be initiated by a consultant dermatologist due to its side-effect profile and monitoring requirements. We provide fast-track private dermatology referrals, usually seen within 1-2 weeks.
Skin Infections
Bacterial skin infections (cellulitis, impetigo, infected wounds), viral infections (shingles, cold sores, warts), and fungal infections (athlete's foot, ringworm, nail fungus) all benefit from prompt medical assessment and treatment. Shingles in particular should be treated within 72 hours of rash onset for the antiviral medication to be most effective.
Same-day assessment and prescriptions for skin infections are available at The Online GP — often via video consultation for straightforward cases, or in-person when examination is needed.
