Forgotten or Lost Medication in London 2026. How Visitors Get a UK Prescription the Same Day
If you have arrived in London without your medication, the problem is smaller than it feels and the solution is faster than most people expect. The 2 things worth knowing immediately are these. A prescription written outside the UK cannot generally be dispensed by a British pharmacy, so showing your home prescription at a chemist will not usually work. And a UK-registered doctor can assess you, issue a private UK prescription and have you collecting your medication from a pharmacy within hours, without you being registered with anyone or holding any insurance.
What makes it work quickly is evidence, and almost everyone has more than they realise. A photograph of the packaging or the pharmacy label. Your repeat prescription list. A message or letter from your own doctor. The medication record in your health app. Any 1 of those, combined with a consultation, is usually enough for a doctor to establish what you take and why and to prescribe an equivalent available in the UK. At The Wellness in Marylebone, 3 minutes from Baker Street, a GMC-registered doctor sees visitors the same day, by video from £150, in the clinic from £220, or at your hotel or apartment from £495, with the prescription issued in the appointment and the nearest pharmacy holding your medicine identified before you leave. Consultations available in Arabic, French, Spanish and Dutch. Fees appear further down this page.

What to send us before the appointment
The consultation moves faster when the doctor can already see what you take. Photograph the box, the blister strip or the pharmacy label, including the strength and the dose instructions, and send it on WhatsApp before you book. If you have your repeat list, a discharge letter, a specialist letter or a screenshot from your national health app, send that too.
Brand names differ between countries and the same drug is sold under different names in different markets, so the strength and the generic name matter more than the brand. If you only know the brand, send the photograph and we will identify the equivalent licensed here.
If you have nothing at all, that is still workable. A consultation establishes your history, your condition and your treatment, and where verification is needed we can contact your own doctor or pharmacy with your consent. It takes longer, which is the only reason to send what you have first.
Why a UK doctor is the reliable route
British pharmacies dispense against UK prescriptions. A prescription issued in another country, however legitimate, sits outside that system and cannot generally be dispensed here, which is the single most common source of frustration for visitors who arrive at a chemist expecting it to be honoured.
Pharmacists do have limited discretion to make an emergency supply at a patient's request, and it occasionally solves the problem. The limits are real. Quantities are restricted, most controlled drugs are excluded entirely, the pharmacist has to be satisfied about your previous treatment, and verification is exactly where overseas visitors run into difficulty because there is no UK record to check. Some pharmacists will help. Many will decline, and you will have spent an afternoon of your trip discovering which.
A private consultation removes the uncertainty. A GMC-registered doctor assesses you, decides what is appropriate, and issues a valid UK private prescription that any pharmacy will dispense, with a specific pharmacy identified that holds your medication in stock so you are not walking between chemists.

What we can prescribe, and what we cannot
Most regular medication is straightforward. Blood pressure treatment, statins, diabetes medication including insulin, asthma and COPD inhalers, thyroid replacement, anticoagulants, antidepressants and antipsychotics, epilepsy medication, contraception, HRT, steroids, immunosuppressants and transplant medication, antihistamines, reflux treatment and most antibiotics where clinically indicated. Where your usual drug is not licensed in the UK, a doctor can prescribe the closest equivalent and explain the difference.
Controlled drugs are the exception and honesty here matters more than a sale. Strong opioids, benzodiazepines, ADHD stimulants such as methylphenidate and lisdexamfetamine, and similar categories are governed by strict UK regulations, and it is generally not appropriate to issue them at a first consultation to a visitor without established records. We will tell you this on the message rather than after you have paid for an appointment, and we will help you find the correct route, which frequently means contacting your prescribing doctor at home or, for a genuine emergency, an urgent care route.
Anything urgent belongs elsewhere. Chest pain, breathing difficulty, stroke symptoms, severe allergic reaction or a diabetic emergency needs 999 or an emergency department immediately, not a prescription appointment.
What it costs in London
Hotel doctor services and concierge practices in central London charge £400 to £600 and above per visit, frequently inside membership structures. Harley Street consultations run £250 to £350 before any prescription is issued. Beneath that sits a tier defined by its conditions rather than its price, short remote appointments with no examination, no capacity to verify what you take and no route to a doctor if the picture turns out to be more complicated than a repeat.
At The Wellness the consultation, the prescription and the pharmacy arrangement are handled together. All figures are from prices.
Hotel, apartment or residence visit, evenings and weekends, from £695.
Hotel, apartment or residence visit, daytime, from £495, with additional family members seen in the same visit from £195 each.
In-person consultation at the Marylebone clinic, with examination, from £220.
Same-day video consultation with a GMC-registered doctor, from £150.
Private prescription issued in the appointment, with the nearest pharmacy holding your medication identified. Medication is paid for at the pharmacy at private prescription prices.
Blood tests, monitoring or examination where a medication requires it, arranged in the same visit.
Same-day appointments 7 days a week in Marylebone, 3 minutes from Baker Street.
Why The Wellness is the best choice for visitors needing medication in London
Because the outcome you want is not an appointment. It is being back on your medication today, with the rest of your trip intact, and everything here is built around that. Send a photograph before you book and the doctor already knows what you take. Consultations are available the same day by video, in the clinic or at your hotel. The prescription is issued in the appointment rather than promised afterwards.
The clinic behind it matters when the situation is more than a repeat. If your blood pressure needs checking before a prescription is renewed, if your anticoagulation needs a blood test, if you have run out of something requiring monitoring, that happens here rather than becoming another appointment somewhere else.
No registration, no referral, no NHS record, complete confidentiality, and consultations in Arabic, French, Spanish and Dutch. For a visitor in an unfamiliar system with a fixed number of days in the country, that combination is the difference between a problem solved before lunch and a holiday spent solving it.

Frequently asked questions
I forgot my medication and I am visiting London. What do I do
See a UK-registered doctor, who can assess you and issue a private UK prescription any pharmacy will dispense. At The Wellness a GMC-registered doctor sees visitors the same day, by video from £150, in the Marylebone clinic from £220 or at your hotel from £495, with the prescription issued in the appointment. Send a photograph of your medication packaging on WhatsApp first to speed it up.
Can a UK pharmacy dispense my foreign prescription
Generally no. British pharmacies dispense against UK prescriptions, and a prescription issued in another country sits outside that system. Pharmacists have limited discretion to make an emergency supply at a patient's request, but quantities are restricted, most controlled drugs are excluded, and verifying previous treatment for an overseas visitor is usually where it fails.
What evidence do I need to get my medication in the UK
A photograph of the packaging or pharmacy label showing the name and strength, your repeat prescription list, a letter from your doctor, or the medication record in your health app. Any of those with a consultation is usually enough. Without evidence it is still possible, and verification with your own doctor or pharmacy takes longer.
Can you prescribe ADHD medication or strong painkillers to a visitor
Generally not at a first consultation. Controlled drugs including ADHD stimulants, strong opioids and benzodiazepines are tightly regulated in the UK and it is not usually appropriate to issue them to a visitor without established records. We will tell you before you book rather than after you have paid, and we will point you to the correct route.
My medication is not sold in the UK. What happens
The doctor identifies the closest licensed equivalent, explains the difference in name, strength or formulation, and prescribes accordingly. Brand names vary considerably between countries, so the generic name and strength on your packaging is what matters most.
Do I need to register or have insurance
No. Private care in the UK requires no registration, no referral and no insurance, and creates no NHS record. Payment is direct, with an itemised invoice suitable for a claim at home.
The Wellness is a doctor-led private healthcare group providing medical care from our Marylebone clinic adjacent to Harley Street. All doctors are GMC-registered. Prescriptions are issued only following a consultation and clinical assessment, and only where the doctor considers them clinically appropriate. In an emergency call 999.
