Healthcare for Visitors to London 2026. Prescriptions, Executive Checks, Longevity Assessment and Biomarker Screening

The Wellness in Marylebone is the best private clinic in London for international visitors, and the reason is that the 5 things travellers most often need are the 5 things hardest to arrange here alone. A prescription refill, because a prescription written outside the UK cannot generally be dispensed by a British pharmacy, so presenting your home prescription at a chemist will usually fail. An executive health check compressed into the days you are actually here, which works only if it is sequenced backwards from your departure date rather than forwards from a booking. A longevity assessment that measures what can be changed rather than selling a biological age number with no validated clinical use. A wellness check, meaning a full baseline of how you are now, which is the most common request and the least well served. And biomarker screening, where the Complete Biomarker Assessment covers over 100 markers from £1,400 against advanced panels elsewhere in London reaching around £1,000. You need no NHS registration, no referral, no insurance and no UK address, and nothing creates an NHS record. Appointments are available the same day, 7 days a week, from £59 for a mini consultation, £150 by video, £220 in person at 10 Portman Square, or £495 if a doctor comes to your hotel. Consultations are available in Arabic, French, Spanish and Dutch. Fees appear further down this page.

How do I get a prescription refill in London

Send a photograph before you book. The packaging, the blister strip or the pharmacy label showing the drug name and strength does most of the work, because brand names differ between countries while the generic name and the milligrams do not. A repeat prescription list, a specialist letter or the medication record in your national health app all help.

You are then assessed, and a valid UK private prescription is issued that any pharmacy will dispense. Where your usual medicine is not licensed here, the closest equivalent is prescribed and the difference explained. We identify a specific pharmacy holding your medication in stock rather than leaving you to walk between chemists on a working day.

Pharmacists do have limited discretion to make an emergency supply at a patient's request. Quantities are restricted, most controlled drugs are excluded, and the pharmacist must be satisfied about your previous treatment, which is exactly where overseas visitors fail because no UK record exists to check. A consultation removes that uncertainty.

One limit stated plainly. Controlled drugs including strong opioids, benzodiazepines and ADHD stimulants such as methylphenidate and lisdexamfetamine are tightly regulated in the UK, and it is generally not appropriate for any doctor to issue them to a visitor at a first consultation without established records. We tell you that on the message before you book rather than after you have paid, and we help you find the route that will work.

Where a medicine needs monitoring before it continues, such as anticoagulation or thyroid replacement, blood collection is arranged at an accredited partner laboratory a short walk away. Travel letters listing your medication, doses and conditions for customs and airlines are issued from £150.

Send a photo of your medication on WhatsApp or email team@thewellnesslondon.com.

Can I have an executive health check during a short visit

Yes, and the sequence is what makes it possible. The assessment happens first, by video before you land where that suits, so the testing is specified before you arrive rather than chosen from a menu on the day.

Fasting bloods are collected early the following morning at an accredited partner laboratory, because fasting glucose, insulin and a full lipid profile need 8 to 12 hours without food and testosterone must be drawn between 7am and 11am. Imaging follows the same morning at the London centre holding the right equipment for your questions, performed by an experienced sonographer and reported by a consultant radiologist. Where diaries allow, both happen on one morning so a single half-day covers the testing.

The review is scheduled in person before you fly where timing allows, or by video once you are home, and the written report is prepared in a form your own physician can act on rather than a document only we can interpret.

The constraint people underestimate is fasting and timing rather than availability. Book before you travel and the sequence works. Book on arrival and the fasting bloods slip a day, which usually costs the whole itinerary.

One practical point on interpretation. Long-haul travel and time zone shift raise inflammatory markers, disturb cortisol rhythm and affect glucose handling for several days, dehydration from cabin air concentrates urea and creatinine, and alcohol raises liver enzymes and triglycerides for days rather than hours. Testing on day 2 or 3 rather than the morning of arrival produces a more useful picture, and results here are read by somebody who knows you flew in on Tuesday.

What does a longevity assessment actually measure

This is the area with the widest gap between what is sold and what is supported, so it is worth being direct.

Epigenetic biological age tests, which estimate age from DNA methylation patterns, are a legitimate research tool. They are not validated for individual clinical decisions, different commercial algorithms return meaningfully different ages for the same sample, and no trial has shown that acting on the number improves any outcome. We will interpret one you have had elsewhere and we do not sell it as the centrepiece of a programme.

What does have evidence is less exotic and considerably more useful. Cardiovascular risk reduction, where apolipoprotein B counts the particles that enter artery walls and lipoprotein little a, raised in around 20% of people and inherited, is measured once in a lifetime. Metabolic correction, where the prediabetic range of 42 to 47 mmol/mol is the largest reversible opportunity available and the Diabetes Prevention Program achieved a 58% reduction in progression through lifestyle change alone. Liver fat, present in an estimated 20% to 30% of UK adults and reversible when caught. Cardiorespiratory fitness and resistance training, which are among the strongest predictors of healthy life expectancy there are. Sleep, including investigating sleep apnoea rather than assuming it absent. Blood pressure. And not smoking.

Supplementation follows measurement rather than a shelf. Iron where ferritin shows depletion and its cause pursued, vitamin D where the level is low, B12 where absorption is impaired, with dose set by the result and rechecked to confirm correction. We do not sell a standard stack of longevity compounds, because a clinic profiting from what it recommends cannot be relied on for anything else it recommends.

What is included in a wellness check

A wellness check is the request people make most often and the one least well defined, so here is what it should contain.

A history and examination, which sounds obvious and is skipped by a surprising proportion of what is sold under this name. Family history in particular changes what should be tested and how often.

Comprehensive biomarker profiling covering cardiovascular, metabolic, liver, kidney, thyroid, nutritional, inflammatory and hormonal markers. The Complete Biomarker Assessment covers over 100, including apolipoprotein B, lipoprotein little a, fasting insulin with HOMA-IR, full thyroid with antibodies, complete iron studies and liver fibrosis scoring, which are the markers most panels omit and that most change management.

Blood pressure measured properly, which remains the highest-value measurement in medicine and costs nothing. Waist circumference, which predicts metabolic risk better than body mass index.

Imaging only where your history points at something, arranged at the specialist centre best equipped for that question with consultant radiologist reporting. Untargeted whole-body scanning of people without symptoms has been reviewed across 12 studies and 5,373 participants without demonstrated improvement in outcomes, while incidental findings are common, so it is arranged where there is a reason and not as a default.

And a review appointment where all of it is explained against your symptoms, treatment is started where indicated, and a written summary is prepared for your physician at home.

What does it cost for visitors in London

Hotel doctor and concierge services in central London charge £400 to £600 and above per visit, frequently inside membership structures with annual retainers running into thousands. Harley Street consultations sit at £250 to £350 and consultant first appointments at £250 to £500. Private hospital executive tiers run £3,500 to £8,000, multi-day Harley Street programmes reach £14,000, and comprehensive imaging programmes exceed £32,000, with longevity memberships reported at up to £25,000 a year. Advanced biomarker panels alone reach around £1,000.

At The Wellness there is no membership and no joining fee, so a single visit costs a single fee. All figures are from prices.

  • Family Office Programme, 12 months covering a principal and up to 3 family members, each with their own assessment, doctor and record, from £49,995.

  • Principal Programme, 12 months for 1 individual at the fullest level of care available here, from £31,995.

  • Continuous Care Programme, 12 months of physician oversight between visits, from £24,995.

  • Executive Health Programme, the most comprehensive single assessment, from £11,995.

  • Executive Body Scan, consultant-reported organ imaging with full bloods and consolidated review, from £5,995.

  • Baseline Assessment, consultation and examination with full profiling and targeted imaging where indicated, from £3,495.

  • Complete Biomarker Assessment, over 100 markers with extended review, from £1,400.

  • Comprehensive Blood Panel with consultation from £495. Extended 45-minute consultation from £395.

  • In-person consultation, 30 minutes with examination, from £220. Same-day video consultation from £150. Mini consultation from £59.

  • Private prescriptions issued in the appointment. Travel and medical letters from £150. Psychiatrist consultation from £950.

Same-day appointments 7 days a week at 10 Portman Square, Marylebone, 3 minutes from Baker Street and 8 from Bond Street.

Why The Wellness is the best clinic in London for visitors

Because the constraint is your calendar and everything is arranged around it. Same-day appointments 7 days a week, video within hours from any time zone, doctors who will come to your hotel or apartment in the evening, families seen together at £195 for each additional person, and a WhatsApp line answered by a person before you book so you know what will happen and what it will cost.

Because the whole pathway is coordinated rather than sold in pieces. Bloods at an accredited laboratory, imaging at the centre best equipped for the question with consultant radiologist reporting, specialist opinions arranged through the Harley Street network, everything consolidated into one record and one review, and a written report your own physician can use. Nothing is handed back to you as a document to organise in a city you do not live in.

Because we own no scanner and no laboratory. There is no equipment here that needs keeping busy, so each study goes where the question is best answered.

And because you are told what is not possible before you pay for it. A controlled drug that cannot appropriately be prescribed to a visitor at a first consultation. A biological age test that will not change any decision. A scan that will not answer your question. That is the difference between a clinic and a booking system, and it is why people who come here once contact us before their next trip rather than starting again.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see a private doctor in London as a visitor from abroad

Yes. Private healthcare in the UK requires no NHS registration, no referral, no insurance and no UK address, and nothing creates an NHS record. At The Wellness appointments are available the same day, 7 days a week, from £59 for a mini consultation, £150 by video, £220 in person at 10 Portman Square or £495 at your hotel, in Arabic, French, Spanish and Dutch.

Can a UK pharmacy dispense my foreign prescription

Generally no. British pharmacies dispense against UK prescriptions and a prescription issued abroad sits outside that system. Pharmacists have limited discretion to make an emergency supply, but quantities are restricted, most controlled drugs are excluded, and verifying previous treatment for an overseas visitor is where it usually fails. A consultation produces a valid UK prescription any pharmacy will dispense.

Can I have a full health check during a short trip to London

Yes, sequenced backwards from your departure. The consultation happens first, by video before you land where that suits, then fasting bloods and imaging compressed into a single morning where diaries allow, with the review in person before you fly or by video once home. Programmes run from £1,400 to £49,995.

Are biological age and longevity tests worth having

Epigenetic biological age tests are a research tool rather than a validated basis for individual clinical decisions, different commercial algorithms return meaningfully different results for the same sample, and no trial has shown that acting on the number improves an outcome. What has evidence is cardiovascular risk reduction, metabolic correction, liver fat, fitness, sleep, blood pressure and not smoking.

What does a wellness check include

A history and examination, comprehensive biomarker profiling across cardiovascular, metabolic, liver, kidney, thyroid, nutritional, inflammatory and hormonal markers, blood pressure and waist circumference, imaging only where your history points at something, and a review appointment with a written summary for your own physician.

Will my results be shared with anyone

No. Nothing creates an NHS record and nothing is released to your doctor at home, your employer or an insurer without your written consent. Where you want a report prepared for your own physician, it is written in a form they can use and given to you.

The Wellness is a doctor-led private healthcare group providing medical care from 10 Portman Square, Marylebone, adjacent to Harley Street. All doctors are GMC-registered. Prescriptions and certificates are issued only following a consultation and clinical assessment. Blood analysis is performed by accredited laboratories and imaging is arranged at specialist centres and reported by consultant radiologists. In an emergency call 999.
