Private GP for Children and Families in London: Same-Day Paediatric Consultations

When your child is unwell, every hour of waiting feels like a day. You call your NHS GP at 8am and cannot get through. You try 111 and spend 45 minutes on hold. Your child is miserable, you are worried, and nobody can see them until next week.

The Online GP by The Wellness provides same-day consultations for children and families. Our GMC-registered doctors see children of all ages for acute illness, infections, rashes, and a wide range of paediatric concerns. In-person from £125 at our Marylebone clinic, or video consultations from £49 when appropriate.

Your child is unwell and needs a doctor today? WhatsApp us now and we will arrange a same-day appointment. Or email team@thewellnesslondon.com.

If your child has difficulty breathing, is unresponsive, has a seizure, has a rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass, or you suspect meningitis — call 999 immediately or go to A&E. Do not wait for a GP appointment.

Common Childhood Conditions We See

Ear Infections

One of the most common reasons parents bring children to see a GP. Ear infections cause pain, fever, irritability, and sometimes ear discharge. Our doctors examine the ear with an otoscope to determine whether the infection is likely bacterial (requiring antibiotics) or viral (which will resolve on its own with pain management). We prescribe appropriate treatment and provide clear advice on what to watch for.

Throat Infections and Tonsillitis

Sore throats are extremely common in children. Most are viral, but bacterial tonsillitis (including strep throat) requires antibiotic treatment. Our doctors examine the throat, assess symptoms, and prescribe antibiotics when clinically indicated. For children with recurrent tonsillitis, we can discuss referral criteria and arrange specialist ENT assessment if needed.

Chest Infections and Coughs

Persistent coughs, wheezing, and chest infections are common in children, particularly during winter. Our doctors listen to the chest, assess breathing, and determine whether the cause is viral (requiring supportive care), bacterial (requiring antibiotics), or related to an underlying condition such as asthma. For children with recurrent wheeze or suspected asthma, we can initiate assessment and refer to paediatric respiratory specialists.

Rashes and Skin Conditions

Childhood rashes are extremely common and range from completely harmless to requiring urgent attention. Eczema, hives, viral rashes, impetigo, fungal infections, and allergic reactions all present differently and require different approaches. Many rashes can be assessed via video consultation — show us the rash on camera and our doctor can often diagnose and prescribe without an in-person visit.

Fever

Fever in children is almost always caused by a viral infection and resolves within a few days. But parents understandably worry, particularly with very young children. Our doctors assess the child's overall condition, hydration, level of activity, and any accompanying symptoms to determine whether the fever requires specific treatment or further investigation, or simply reassurance and guidance on supportive care.

Stomach Bugs and Vomiting

Gastroenteritis causes vomiting, diarrhoea, and misery for both children and parents. Our doctors assess hydration status, advise on fluid replacement, and identify the small number of cases that need further investigation or hospital referral.

Urinary Tract Infections

UTIs in children can present differently from adults — sometimes with fever alone, sometimes with tummy pain, sometimes with changes in toilet habits. Prompt treatment is important, particularly in young children, where UTIs can indicate underlying urinary tract issues that need investigation.

Do not wait and worry. WhatsApp us and we will see your child today.

Video or In-Person?

Some childhood conditions can be confidently assessed via video consultation, saving you the trip to the clinic with a sick child.

Video consultation is usually sufficient for visible rashes where you can show the affected area clearly on camera, mild coughs and colds where you can describe the symptoms, follow-up reviews for conditions already assessed, advice and reassurance about common childhood illnesses, prescription requests for known conditions, and school absence letters.

In-person assessment is recommended for ear infections (otoscope examination needed), throat infections (throat examination needed), chest infections (chest auscultation needed), fever in children under 2 years, any child who appears significantly unwell, abdominal pain, and any condition where you feel your child needs to be properly examined.

If you book a video consultation and our doctor feels an in-person examination is needed, we will advise you and can arrange a same-day clinic appointment.

School Absence Letters and Child Medical Notes

If your child has been off school due to illness and the school requires medical evidence, our doctors provide medical letters confirming the child's illness and the period of absence. This is particularly useful for prolonged absences that may trigger attendance monitoring. Letters cost from £50 and can be issued same-day.

Ongoing Family GP Service

For families who value continuity and want a private GP who knows their children, we offer an ongoing family service. Your children see the same doctor at each visit, building a relationship and a medical history that improves the quality of care over time. No re-explaining your family's medical background at every appointment.

For International Families in London

International families — whether in London temporarily or long-term — face particular challenges accessing healthcare for their children. You may not be registered with an NHS GP, your child's medical records may be in another country, and navigating the UK healthcare system while managing a sick child is stressful.

The Online GP welcomes international families without any registration requirement. Our multilingual doctors (English, Arabic, Spanish, French, Dutch) can communicate with parents in their first language, which is especially important when discussing a child's health. We coordinate with your home-country paediatrician where needed and provide medical reports in formats suitable for international insurance.
