Private Repeat Prescriptions and Medication Management in London: Same-Day From £49

Your medication has run out. Your NHS repeat prescription has been rejected because you need a review. You cannot get a GP appointment for two weeks. And stopping your medication is not an option.

This scenario plays out thousands of times a day across the UK. Blood pressure medication, thyroid hormones, antidepressants, contraception, diabetes medication — all of them can cause problems if stopped abruptly. A gap in treatment is not just an inconvenience. For some medications, it is medically dangerous.

The Online GP by The Wellness provides same-day repeat prescriptions from £49 with consultation. Whether you need a short-term bridge while waiting for your NHS review or ongoing private prescription management, our GMC-registered doctors ensure you never go without essential medication.

When You Need a Private Prescription

There are several common situations where a private GP prescription becomes essential rather than optional.

Your NHS repeat has been blocked. Many NHS practices now require annual or biannual reviews before renewing repeat prescriptions. This is good clinical practice — but when the review appointment is weeks away and your medication runs out tomorrow, you need a solution today.

You are between NHS GPs. If you have moved house or recently arrived in the UK and have not yet registered with a new NHS GP, there can be a gap of days or weeks where no one can issue your prescriptions. A private GP bridges this gap.

Your NHS GP will not prescribe what you need. Sometimes there is a clinical disagreement about your treatment. Perhaps you were started on a medication by a hospital consultant and your NHS GP is reluctant to continue it. Or your NHS practice has formulary restrictions that limit which medications they prescribe. A private GP can prescribe what you need after their own clinical assessment.

You need medication urgently out of hours. NHS practices are closed in the evenings and weekends, and 111 has limitations on what it can prescribe. Our video consultations are available 7 days a week.

You are an international patient. If you are visiting the UK and need medication that was prescribed in your home country, a private GP can issue a UK prescription for the equivalent medication.

What We Can Prescribe

Our GMC-registered doctors can prescribe most medications available in the UK. Common repeat prescriptions we handle include cardiovascular medications (blood pressure tablets, statins, anticoagulants), endocrine medications (thyroid hormones, metformin, insulin), respiratory medications (inhalers, montelukast), mental health medications (antidepressants, anti-anxiety medication, mood stabilisers), contraception (combined pill, progesterone-only pill, emergency contraception), dermatological treatments (topical steroids, retinoids, antifungals), gastrointestinal medications (proton pump inhibitors, anti-spasmodics), pain management (anti-inflammatories, neuropathic pain medications), and many others.

Controlled drugs. Some medications — particularly strong opioids, benzodiazepines, and stimulants — are controlled drugs with specific prescribing regulations. Our doctors can prescribe these where clinically appropriate, but additional verification and shorter prescription durations may apply. We do not prescribe controlled drugs as a first consultation without prior medical records or clear clinical justification.

How It Works

Step 1 — Contact us. WhatsApp, email, or call. Tell us what medication you need, the dose, and how long you have been taking it. If possible, send a photo of your medication packaging.

Step 2 — Assessment. For straightforward repeat prescriptions (you are on a stable medication, no recent changes, no concerns), this can be a brief clinical check costing from £29. If a consultation is needed — for example, if you are requesting a medication for the first time, changing dose, or if a clinical review is overdue — a full consultation from £49 (video) or £125 (in-person) is appropriate.

Step 3 — Prescription issued. We send an e-prescription to your chosen pharmacy for same-day collection. Alternatively, we can provide a paper prescription at the clinic. Delivery pharmacies are also available in many areas.

Ongoing Prescription Management

If you prefer to manage your regular medications through a private GP rather than relying on the NHS repeat system, we offer ongoing prescription management programmes.

This includes regular medication reviews (ensuring your medication remains appropriate and effective), monitoring blood tests where required (for example, thyroid function tests for levothyroxine, HbA1c for diabetes medication, liver function for statins), dose adjustments based on symptoms and blood results, and coordination with any specialists involved in your care.

This is particularly popular with patients who value continuity — seeing the same doctor who knows their history, rather than seeing whoever is available at their NHS practice. It is also valuable for patients on multiple medications who benefit from a single doctor overseeing the complete picture.

A Note on Cost

Private prescriptions are charged at the full retail cost of the medication, not the NHS prescription charge of £9.90 per item. For many common generic medications (such as levothyroxine, amlodipine, ramipril, omeprazole, or sertraline), the full cost is often between £5 and £20 — comparable to the NHS charge. For some branded or newer medications, the cost can be significantly higher.

Your pharmacist can tell you the cost before dispensing, and you are free to shop around — any pharmacy in the UK can dispense a private prescription. We are happy to advise on cost-effective options where clinically equivalent alternatives exist.

Do not let a prescription gap put your health at risk. WhatsApp us now for a same-day prescription.
