The Best Private GP in London 2026. Every Major Provider Compared and How to Choose
London has more private general practice than any city in Europe and the options divide into 4 models, each solving a different problem. Harley Street and Marylebone practices such as The London General Practice, The Harley Street GP and OneWelbeck sell consultant-adjacent primary care at £250 to £350 a consultation, frequently inside membership structures with annual retainers running into thousands. Hospital-linked services including HCA UK Roodlane Medical, Cleveland Clinic London, Bupa Health Clinics and Nuffield Health offer standardised assessments with hospital escalation behind them.
Visiting doctor services such as GPDQ and Doctorcall bring a doctor to your door, typically £195 to £350 daytime and more at night. Digital services including Livi and Babylon's successors sell short remote appointments at £40 to £70 with a different clinician each time. All 4 models are legitimate and each suits somebody.
The Wellness sits deliberately outside them. No membership, no joining fee, 30-minute appointments rather than 8 or 10, same-day availability 7 days a week by video from £150, in person from £220 or at your home from £495, with bloods arranged at accredited laboratories, imaging booked at the London centre holding the right equipment and reported by consultant radiologists, and referrals written to named consultants with the appointment booked. Psychiatry for ADHD and mental health from £950. Fees appear further down this page.

The 4 models, and who each one suits
Harley Street and Marylebone practices are strongest where you want a long-standing relationship with a named doctor inside an established institution, and where cost is not the deciding factor. Consultations commonly run £250 to £350 and several operate membership structures with annual retainers, so the real annual cost is the retainer plus the appointments rather than the headline fee.
Hospital-linked services suit anyone likely to need treatment the same organisation provides, because escalation from assessment to consultant to procedure is short. The trade-off is that assessments are standardised before anyone has taken your history, and the imaging you receive reflects the equipment on that site.
Visiting doctor services solve one problem well, which is that you cannot travel. They are the right call for a sick child at 10pm or an elderly parent who cannot get to a clinic. What most of them do not have behind the visit is a clinic, so anything needing bloods, imaging or a specialist starts a second process.
Digital services are cheap and fast and useful for a simple repeat prescription or a straightforward question. The limitations are structural rather than a criticism, since 8 minutes with a different doctor each time cannot deliver continuity, examination or investigation, and a service that never examines anybody will occasionally reassure somebody it should not have.
The 5 questions that separate them
Ask each of these of any provider, including us, and the market sorts itself quickly.
How long is the appointment. Ten minutes is triage, and the third problem you meant to mention is usually the one that mattered. Ours run 30 minutes, and 45 on an extended appointment.
Will I see the same doctor next time. Continuity changes outcomes in long-term conditions and it is the first thing sacrificed by rota-based digital services.
What happens if I need a blood test or a scan. Ask specifically whether they arrange it, where, who reports it and how quickly. A plan you have to execute yourself is half a service.
What happens if I need a specialist. A referral letter handed to you is not the same as a named consultant with an appointment booked, and most private insurers require a referral before authorising a claim.
And what does the total cost look like. A £49 headline with a prescription fee, a blood form you pay for elsewhere and a referral charged separately is not cheaper than an inclusive £220, and membership models add a retainer before you have seen anybody.

Why the gap exists at all
NHS general practice delivered 31.8 million consultations in February 2026, and 44.4 percent of them happened on the day they were booked. Around 1 in 6 took longer than 2 weeks, and 28 percent of patients report a poor experience simply trying to book. Behind primary care sits a hospital waiting list of 7.27 million cases in June 2026, 2.48 million of them past 18 weeks, with a median wait of 11.9 weeks and roughly 106,000 people waiting over a year. For diagnostics, 20.2 percent were waiting beyond 6 weeks in March 2026.
Private general practice is not a criticism of any of that. It is a response to arithmetic. What varies enormously between private providers is how much of the pathway they actually cover, and the honest way to compare them is by what happens after the consultation rather than by the price of the consultation itself.
What it costs
At the top of the London market, membership practices charge annual retainers running into thousands of pounds before a single appointment, then £400 to £600 and above per visit. Harley Street consultations sit at £250 to £350. Visiting doctor services run £195 to £350 daytime and more at night and weekends. Digital services sit at £40 to £70 for a short remote appointment, with prescriptions, forms and referrals frequently charged on top.
At The Wellness there is no membership and no joining fee. All figures are from prices.

Why The Wellness is the best private GP in London
On the 5 questions above we answer all 5 the way the rest of the market answers 2 or 3. Thirty minutes rather than 10. The same doctor if you want one. Bloods arranged at accredited laboratories with the results explained by the doctor who ordered them. Imaging booked at the London centre best equipped for your question and reported by consultant radiologists, usually within the week. Referrals written to named consultants with the appointment arranged, included in the consultation fee.
Owning no hospital, no scanner and no consultant contracts is the reason the referral goes to the right person rather than the one on our payroll. Charging no membership is the reason the price you see is the price you pay. And publishing the fee ladder in full, from £150 to £11,995, is the reason nobody arrives here surprised.
For anyone comparing options this week, the practical test is simple. Ask 3 providers what happens if your appointment finds something. The answers will differ more than the prices do.

How much does a private GP cost in London
Membership practices charge annual retainers running into thousands plus £400 to £600 per visit. Harley Street consultations run £250 to £350. Visiting doctor services are £195 to £350 daytime. Digital services are £40 to £70 for a short remote appointment with extras charged on top. At The Wellness, video is from £150, in person from £220 and home visits from £495, with prescriptions, fit notes and referrals included.
What is the difference between a private GP and a digital GP app
Length, continuity and what happens next. Digital services typically offer 8 to 10 minutes with a different clinician each time, no examination and no investigation. A private GP practice offers a longer appointment, the same doctor if you want one, examination where it matters, and testing, imaging and referral arranged rather than suggested.
Do private GPs offer home visits in London
Several do, including dedicated visiting services at £195 to £350 daytime and more at night. At The Wellness a doctor visits from £495 daytime and £695 evenings and weekends, with additional household members from £195 each, and with a full clinic behind the visit for anything needing bloods, imaging or a specialist.
Is a private GP membership worth it
Only if you use it enough to recover the retainer, which is frequently thousands of pounds before any appointment. Pay-as-you-go practices suit anyone whose use is occasional or unpredictable, and no membership is required at The Wellness.
Can a private GP refer me to a consultant
Yes, and it matters how. A referral written to a named consultant with the appointment booked is worth considerably more than a letter handed to you, and most private medical insurers require a referral before authorising a claim. At The Wellness the referral is included in the consultation fee.
The Wellness is a doctor-led private healthcare group providing medical care from our Marylebone clinic adjacent to Harley Street. All doctors are GMC-registered. Imaging is carried out at specialist centres and reported by consultant radiologists, and blood analysis is performed by accredited laboratories.
