A doctor home visit can bring an examination and a discussion about blood testing into the same plan. The useful question is which result would change your care, how the sample will reach the laboratory and who will explain what happens next. Blood collection at your address needs to be confirmed before the appointment; it should not be assumed from a consultation booking.

Can a visiting doctor take blood at home?
Blood sampling can be performed away from a clinic when an appropriately trained professional, the right equipment and a suitable laboratory pathway are arranged. A visiting doctor does not necessarily carry every collection tube or offer every test at every appointment. Explain the request when you enquire so the team can confirm what can be arranged.
An examination may change the testing plan. The clinician might recommend a specific panel, a different investigation or no immediate blood test. This is part of a useful assessment, rather than a reason to buy the broadest panel in advance. Ask about a home or hotel consultation if you are unsure which route fits your concern.
What makes a test useful?
A useful test addresses a question raised by your history, symptoms, examination or an established monitoring plan. Kidney function, a blood count and other measurements can answer different questions; one does not replace the others. A result also needs the laboratory range, units and the circumstances in which the sample was taken.
Bring previous reports and the reason a test was recommended. Repeating a large panel without comparing it with earlier results can add information without adding clarity. Ask what a normal or abnormal result would change, and whether a repeat would be needed before drawing a conclusion.
What should be arranged before the visit?
Tell the team your postcode, access details, preferred time and whether a clinician has already requested particular tests. Mention any fainting with needles, difficult previous blood collection or relevant medicines. Do not stop prescribed treatment or fast simply because you expect a blood test; follow the instructions for the actual tests agreed.
The WHO phlebotomy guidance emphasises that identification, collection and transport affect both safety and specimen quality. Its recommendations are not a promise that every sample can be collected at home. The team needs to confirm the appropriate collection and transport arrangements for your request.
Tell The Wellness team your location and what you need. The team will confirm the available service, timing and complete quote before booking.
When will the results be ready?
Turnaround depends on the tests and laboratory, the collection time and whether additional work is needed. A sample collected today does not mean every result will be available today. Ask about the expected reporting time before booking, especially if a flight, operation or specialist appointment depends on it.
Agree who will review the report, how urgent findings will be handled and whether discussion of the results is included in the quote. A portal notification is not the same as an explanation. For a visitor, confirm how follow-up will work after leaving the UK.
When is a home blood test the wrong next step?
Blood testing is not a substitute for urgent assessment when someone is acutely unwell. Severe chest pain, breathing difficulty, collapse or a rapidly worsening condition may need emergency care rather than a couriered sample. A clinician may also recommend a setting with imaging, observation or treatment facilities that are not available in a home.
For a non-urgent concern, a carefully planned visit can reduce unnecessary travel while keeping the clinical question clear. The aim is to leave with an explanation and a named next step, not simply another set of numbers.
What does a carefully arranged London home visit cost?
At the upper end of London's published visiting-doctor market, Knightsbridge Doctors lists £600 for a daytime home visit, £800 for an evening visit between 5pm and 10pm, and £1,000 for a night or weekend visit by arrangement. Its fee structure adds charges according to the tests performed. These are that practice's published prices, not The Wellness fees, not a market-wide maximum and not evidence of a better clinical outcome.
Compare the complete service rather than a headline call-out price. Ask about clinician time, travel, tests, laboratory charges, medication, treatment attendance and follow-up. A more expensive visit is not automatically more useful, and a low headline fee may exclude things you need. The Wellness provides an individual quote after the enquiry has been assessed; availability, equipment and the appropriate clinician need confirming for your request.

How can I arrange the next step?
Contact The Online GP, part of The Wellness, with your London postcode or hotel address, the patient's age, a short description of the concern and your preferred time. Tell the team if you are leaving London soon, need help collecting medication or already have relevant reports. Do not send unnecessary identity documents or medical records before the team explains the appropriate secure route.
You can also email the team or call 020 3951 3429. An enquiry does not reserve a doctor or guarantee a procedure. Confirm the complete fee and the plan before paying. For severe breathing difficulty, stroke symptoms, severe chest pain or another medical emergency, call 999 rather than wait for a private visit.
