Men's Health Check in London 2026. The 5 Tests That Change Something at 45, and the PSA and Testosterone Decisions Most Packages Get Wrong

The Wellness in Marylebone provides the best men's health check in London for men who want the tests chosen by a doctor rather than a package, with the Men's Health body scan programme from £3,495 inside a ladder that runs to £49,995, in a market where comprehensive programmes exceed £32,000. The 5 tests that change something are a CT coronary calcium score, an abdominal ultrasound with a FIB-4 score, apolipoprotein B with lipoprotein little a, an HbA1c, and from 65 a single measurement of the aorta. In the MESA cohort reported by Detrano, a calcium score over 300 raised coronary risk around 10-fold, and the MASS trial of 67,800 men cut aneurysm deaths by 42% with one ultrasound. The 2 tests most packages add without a decision are a PSA and a testosterone level, and in June 2026 the government accepted PSA screening only for men aged 45 to 61 with a BRCA2 variant and a family history, since 72 to 80% of raised results are not cancer. Fees appear further down this page.

What does a men's health check in London actually include

A men's health check at The Wellness starts with a doctor assessing you. For most men aged 45 to 65 the core is a CT coronary calcium score, an abdominal ultrasound covering liver, kidneys, spleen, gallbladder and aorta, and a blood panel including apolipoprotein B, lipoprotein little a, HbA1c, high-sensitivity CRP, ferritin and the liver markers for a FIB-4 score.

Imaging is arranged at the London centre best equipped for each study, performed by a sonographer or radiographer and reported by a consultant radiologist, and blood collection is arranged separately at an accredited partner laboratory on the same day where diaries allow. A review appointment with the doctor who assessed you reads everything together, and anything needing a urologist, cardiologist or hepatologist goes to a named consultant with the appointment booked.

Which 5 tests change something for a man at 45

The calcium score decides the statin question. In the MESA cohort of 6,722 adults a score of 0 carried a coronary event rate near 1 per 1,000 person-years and a score over 300 raised the hazard around 10-fold, and Nasir showed in JACC that over 4 in 10 adults who qualified for a statin on calculators alone had a score of 0. ApoB and lipoprotein little a sit next to it, because ApoB disagrees with LDL in 1 in 5 people and lipoprotein little a is inherited and doubled heart attack risk in Copenhagen.

The abdominal ultrasound and FIB-4 score find the fatty liver 1 in 4 adults carries according to Younossi, more of them men. An HbA1c of 42 to 47 mmol/mol is the fourth, because the Diabetes Prevention Program cut progression to diabetes by 58% and DiRECT put 46% of recent type 2 diabetes into remission at 12 months. The fifth, from 65, is a single ultrasound of the aorta.

Should you have a PSA test

Only after a conversation, never silently inside a package. In June 2026 the government accepted the UK National Screening Committee's first targeted prostate screening programme, a PSA every 2 years for men aged 45 to 61 with a BRCA2 variant and a family history of breast, ovarian, pancreatic or prostate cancer, from 2027. The committee concluded that screening all men does more harm than good and left Black men as an open question pending the TRANSFORM trial.

The harm is in the false alarms. Around 72 to 80% of men with a raised PSA are not found to have cancer, and each faces an MRI, sometimes a biopsy, and weeks of worry. What changed the balance is MRI before biopsy. The PRECISION trial in the NEJM in 2018 found MRI-targeted biopsy detected clinically significant cancer in 38% of men against 26% with standard biopsy, and fewer harmless ones. A man of 50 with no family history is offered the numbers and the choice, and a man with a father or brother diagnosed under 60 is offered the test.

Do you need your testosterone measured

Usually not. The surge in London men being tested is a marketing effect rather than a medical one. Private clinics have used influencers and an Underground advertising campaign to push men to test, and an endocrinologist quoted by AFP in January 2026 rejected the claim that 1 in 4 men under 40 are deficient. Testosterone is measured here for symptoms, meaning loss of morning erections, reduced libido or fatigue with reduced muscle, not as a line on a package.

When it is measured, the British Society for Sexual Medicine guideline requires 2 fasting samples before 11am on separate mornings, because levels fall through the day and a single afternoon result from an online kit diagnoses nothing. Below 8 nmol/L with symptoms is a diagnosis. Between 8 and 12 is a grey zone that needs the causes found first, usually sleep apnoea, weight, alcohol or past anabolic steroids. Treating a normal level suppresses fertility and raises haematocrit.

Which men's health tests should you not buy

A resting ECG as a screening test in a symptomless man is the first, because the US Preventive Services Task Force advises against it in low-risk adults and it cannot see plaque. A whole-body MRI for a healthy 40-year-old with no family history is the second, since the review of 12 studies and 5,373 people found no demonstrated improvement in outcomes, and a thyroid ultrasound without a lump or an abnormal result is the third.

The bigger thing not to buy is a repeat of what the NHS offers. Every man in England aged 40 to 74 without an existing condition gets a free NHS Health Check every 5 years, bowel screening starts at 50 and aneurysm screening at 65. Complete the bowel kit the day it arrives, because only 56.2% of 54-year-olds returned theirs in 2024 to 2025 and Scotland has seen a 49% rise in bowel cancer under 50 in a decade.

What does a men's health check cost in London

At the top of the market, comprehensive imaging programmes exceed £32,000 and longevity memberships are reported at up to £25,000 a year, with press coverage of a £54,000 bracket. Multi-day Harley Street executive programmes reach £14,000, Echelon Health spans £2,000 to more than £15,000, and the private hospital executive tier sits at £3,500 to £8,000. Bought separately, 3 imaging studies at £415 per hospital region, a consultant first appointment at £250 to £500, a full blood panel and a private GP to read them together already pass £2,500 across 3 providers and 3 waits.

Beneath that sits a tier defined by its conditions rather than its price, questionnaire-led packages with no examination, a PSA added by default and no pathway when it comes back raised. At The Wellness the price includes the assessment, the imaging, the bloods, the review and the onward referral. All figures are from prices.

Why The Wellness is the best men's health check in London

The PSA and testosterone decisions are made with you rather than for you, and that is countable, because neither test appears on the Men's Health programme by default. Each is offered after a conversation that includes the June 2026 screening decision, the 72 to 80% false alarm rate and the 2-sample rule, and the man chooses.

Every study is reported by a consultant, every result is read by the doctor who assessed you, and the referral goes to a named consultant with the appointment booked. That is why a calcium score of 160 in a 49-year-old leads to a treatment decision the same week, and a raised PSA to a booked MRI.

We decline tests before you pay. Testosterone without symptoms, a screening ECG and whole-body MRI in a low-risk 40-year-old are not sold here at any price. Places on the 12-month programmes are limited by the number of people one doctor can hold properly, so they begin with an allocation call.

Book the Men's Health programme and your doctor will build the list with you or call 020 3951 3429.
