Private Psychiatrist by Video in 2026. When You Need One, What the Assessment Involves and How Well Online Psychiatry Works

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specialises in mental health, and seeing one is the right step when a GP has done what can be done in primary care, when the diagnosis is unclear, or when medication needs specialist judgement. That includes depression that has not responded to 2 treatments, suspected bipolar disorder, severe anxiety or obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress, and complex medication reviews where several drugs interact. Demand is high. NHS mental health services received a record 5.2 million referrals in 2024, and the Royal College of Psychiatrists estimated around 1.7 million people were on mental health waiting lists in 2025. Psychiatry is well suited to video. A 2023 meta-analysis in The British Journal of Psychiatry, covering 32 randomised trials and 3,592 people across 11 conditions, found that symptom improvement with telepsychiatry was similar to face-to-face care overall, and slightly better for depression, with no difference in dropout. Some situations, including eating disorders and acute crises, are better managed in person or by specialist teams. At The Wellness a consultant psychiatrist assessment is available by video or in person from £950, with a written diagnosis and plan, and a GP can see you the same day by video from £150 to decide whether you need one. A UK Doctor for British Expats in 2026. What a London Doctor Can Do by Video Wherever You Live, and How to Use Your Visits Home

Living abroad usually means losing easy access to a British doctor, and for many expats that matters most when something needs a second opinion, a result needs explaining, or a family member needs advice in English from someone who understands the NHS. Around 246,000 British nationals emigrated in the year to December 2025, according to the Office for National Statistics, and the United Nations estimates that at least 4.8 million people born in Britain live overseas. Once you live abroad you are usually no longer ordinarily resident in the UK, so most NHS hospital care becomes chargeable, although some groups, such as certain UK state pensioners in the EU with an S1 form, keep particular rights. A London doctor can help by video with advice, interpretation of results and scans, a second view on a diagnosis or treatment plan, and planning care for your next visit home. What can be prescribed across borders depends on the law where you live, and the GMC’s principles for remote care require doctors to check this, so prescriptions are usually arranged with a local doctor or collected while you are in London. At The Wellness a video consultation is available the same day from £150, and a visit to London can be used for the Executive Health Programme from £11,995 or ongoing family care through the Family Office Programme from £49,995. Online Skin Doctor in 2026. What Can Be Diagnosed From a Photo, What Needs to Be Seen, and How to Get It Right

Many skin problems can be assessed well by video with good photos, which makes an online skin consultation one of the most useful things a virtual GP does. Acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis flares, fungal infections, cold sores, hives and most common rashes can usually be diagnosed and treated remotely, with any prescription subject to clinical assessment and pharmacy timing. Changing moles are different. A Cochrane review of 22 studies found that photo-based teledermatology correctly flagged about 95% of skin cancers, with fewer than 7% missed, and concluded that it works well for deciding which lesions need to be seen, but that evidence for accurate diagnosis from photos alone is limited. Adding magnified dermoscopic images improves accuracy. So the safe model is simple. Rashes and long-term skin conditions are managed by video, while any new or changing mole, a sore that will not heal or a lump is examined in person with dermoscopy, and removed with laboratory analysis where needed. At The Wellness skin care is led by a GP with a Master’s degree in dermatology. Video consultations are from £150, subject to availability. Enquire for dermoscopy, lesion removal, histology and any separate fees before booking. Fees appear further down this page.

Seasonal Affective Disorder in 2026. How to Tell Winter Blues From Winter Depression, and What Works

Seasonal affective disorder, often called SAD or winter depression, is depression that returns at the same time each year, usually starting in autumn and lifting in spring. Feeling a little flatter in the dark months is common. SAD is different, because it meets the criteria for depression, including persistent low mood, loss of interest, low energy, oversleeping, craving carbohydrates and weight gain, and it affects work and relationships. The evidence on treatment is clearer than most people realise. A 2020 meta-analysis of 19 randomised trials in Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics found that bright light therapy improved symptoms and increased the chance of response, though the trials were small. NICE notes that the evidence for light therapy is less certain than for talking therapies and antidepressants, and treats seasonal depression in the same way as other depression. Vitamin D is often suggested, but the VITAL-DEP trial of 18,353 adults found that vitamin D supplements did not prevent depression or improve mood. Physical causes such as an underactive thyroid, iron deficiency and low B12 can feel identical and should be checked. At The Wellness a doctor can assess you by video from £150, subject to availability, check the physical causes, start treatment and arrange psychiatry where specialist input is needed.
